The Dancehall community is once again reeling as one its members and veteran deejay, Wayne ‘Captain Barkey’ Hamilton, has died. Captain Barkey, known for being in a highly-acclaimed duo with fellow deejay and long-time friend, Wickerman, was shot and killed outside a Bronx motel in New York on Saturday. Captain Barkey’s female companion, Tracy Bennett was also killed during the incident, according to police.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), Captain Barkey and Bennett were fatally shot by Bennett’s ex-boyfriend at the Holiday Motel early this morning. Bennett recently filed a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend before the shooting. However, at 3 a.m. on Saturday, witnesses and law enforcement officials intimated that the ex-boyfriend appeared at the motel and opened fire on Captain Barkey, killing him instantly before turning his attention to Bennett, who pleaded with her ex before being shot dead.
Captain Barkey’s former manager, Ralston Barrett stated on Saturday that he grew concerned when several messages to the entertainer’s phone were left unanswered. They had last spoken on Friday night.
